Paul ended up in Corinth not because of some grand design but because it provided the venue for him to make a living. Corinth was port town so there were always people coming through who needed a place to stay — the perfect place for tent maker. In addition, in non-Olympic years there were athletic contests in Corinth (the Isthmian Games) which drew visitors who also needed shelter. Tents! This serves a lesson for us to “bloom where we are planted.” Paul seized the opportunity to bring the gospel into the circumstances of his life. We can do the same — in whatever providence God has placed us we can share the blessings we have received in being people of faith, hearts filled with grace and peace.
