The modern city of Corinth has moved away from the ancient site. You can visit the ruins of Old Corinth and stand on the street where St. Paul stood, looking up at the judge’s bench where Gallio would have sat. The AcroCorinth, the garrison for the Roman soldiers is right behind. Paul was not intimidated by the might of Roman because he knew he had something more powerful.  “Do not be afraid. Go on speaking, and do not be silent, for I am with you.” When you go into the modern city you can visit the Cathedral. There you will find around the door a list of all of the bishops who have served that community for the past two thousand years. Paul’s name is the first on the list. All that serves to remind us that we have the faith because real people in real situations shared their faith. Now it is our turn. As Paul was courageous in telling others about Jesus, we must have a similar kind of courage in our day.
