“Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled.” The word of Elizabeth spoken to Mary at the Visitation is addressed to each of us. Faith becomes real when we trust in the promises of God. Last Sunday, for example, we heard Jesus promise in St. Matthew’s gospel “I will be with you always.” Jesus does not promise that we won’t have any problems, that all illnesses will be healed, that all griefs will be wiped away. His promise is to be with us in those problems, illnesses and griefs. Remember the old song, “You’ll never walk alone.” Because Jesus is with us we don’t have to carry our burdens alone — so they are easy and light.
