“I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.” The measure for the success of the mission of Jesus is found in us — do we possess the more abundant life that he came to give us? We have more abundant life when we are not filled with fear and anxiety but instead possess the blessed assurance that all will be well. We have more abundant life when we realize that we are the children of God, made in the divine image, and that nothing can take that away from us. We have more abundant life when we love other people with generosity and forgiveness and are willing to let ourselves be loved in return. Abundant life is not something we earn or achieve but something which we receive as a gift from God who loves us.
