When Ananais is told to visit Saul after his encounter on the road to Damascus he is informed that Saul “is there praying.” Saul was then a person of prayer, with a spirituality — yet he was doing “evil things.” Human reality has the tendency to create our own version of God instead of connecting with the one true God. A genuine spirituality is a flesh and blood spirituality. Jesus insisted on that in the “the bread of life” discourse in John 6. “Unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink his Blood, you do not have life within you.” Saul did not see the flesh and blood people impacted by his actions — that in their humanity they possessed an identity with Jesus.
