According to philosophers God is the “wholly other” from us, in Latin “totaliter aliter.” God is all powerful, all knowing and we’re not. That is not how Jesus thought about God. Instead, God was close, near, accessible.”If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Jesus came to break the barrier between heaven and earth, to demonstrate that “God is with us,” not above us. We err when we suppose that God is somewhere out there instead of looking for God in our midst. As Jesus taught us, God is love and we are connected with God whenever we love. As Victor Hugo poetically put it in his novel, Les Miserables: ‘To love another person is to see the face of God.’
