John 14 is the gospel assigned for today and for Sunday. Since the Weekday and Sunday Readings are on a completely different cycle this is a coincidence … or a providence. God wants us to notice this reading . Jesus says, “I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.” That is a powerful reminder that faith is not about memorizing the catechism but has to do with entering a relationship. Jesus wants to be together with us. A very weak analogy: If you visit Springfield, Illinois you’ll find someone dressed as Abraham Lincoln in the history museum. They want him to become alive for the visitor. The gospels are written so Jesus will be alive for us.
