Whenever there is a major event when I was the leader I would thank those who made it all possible. A simple task — but one that filled me with anxiety. I was sure that I would forget someone in the list of gratitude and that they would be hurt as a result. However, Jesus reminded us that in the end we should say: “We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.” We don’t do what we do for the thanks or for the appreciation. We do it because we discern that this is our way to serve, our way to live out the will of God in the world … but I plan on doing better at thanking those who help!
