“The Kingdom of God is among you.” Translating this saying of Jesus is open to interpretation. There is a famous book by Leo Tolstoy entitled The Kingdom of God is within You. In it he argues that a personal conversion to Christ will lead to a peaceful and just world. (This book was a major influence on Gandhi.) While that is certainly a worthy conclusion, a closer look at the context in which these words were spoken suggests that a more accurate translation would be “the kingdom of God is in your midst.” In other word, as long as you have Jesus with you the kingdom of God is present, no matter how things look. Let us hold onto Christ and experience the kingdom now.
