There is a famous nineteenth century painting by William Holman Hunt entited The Light of the World. The painting is the artist’s depiction of a passage in the Book of Revelation.“‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will enter his house and dine with him, and he with me.” The artist deliberately omitted put a door knob on the door. He explained that the door only opens from the inside. When Jesus knocks, he does not force his way in. We need to invite him in. When Jesus knocks on the door of our heart we must decide whether we will open ourselves up to his compassion, his forgiveness, his love.
