As you come down the Mount of Olives walking toward the walled city of Jerusalem you come upon a small chapel called by its Latin name, Dominus Flevit (the Lord wept.) There is a beautiful panorama of the city from the chapel and you can imagine that this was the place where Jesus “saw the city and wept over it.” Amidst his tears Our Lord said, “If this day you only knew what makes for peace.” We do know what makes for peace. Pope Paul VI told us on the World Day of Peace, July 1, 1972: IF YOU WANT PEACE, WORK FOR JUSTICE. As we weep seeing all the problems of this world let us work to make sure everyone is included in a just economy.
