Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us. These words of St. Paul seem the perfect commentary on “the commemoration of all the faithful departed,” better known as All Souls’ Day. Though death lies in front of us all, we Christian are full of hope. After all, the loved ones who have gone before us are not really gone. The love that we shared continues even though death has separated us. We are full of hope because “love is stronger than death” (Song of Songs 8:6). As I get older I am losing my fear of death because of the hoped for reunion with my loved ones.
