Jesus told us that God is God not “of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.” As we come to the end of the month of November, the time to remember our beloved departed, that reminder provides consolation. Life is not merely a biological fact, a certain combination of chemicals and energy. Life is a gift of God that endures. Perhaps the best analogy we have in human experience is the power of love. Time and distance do not diminish the force of love. As we gathered with family during the Thanksgiving holiday we find an enduring love that binds us to our relations simply because they are our relations. Love endures because its source is the same as life.
