The Advent season begins with a vision of the ultimate triumph of God in history. According to the vision, the kingdom of God is a universal kingdom, not for an exclusive club for the select few. All nations shall stream toward it, according to Isaiah. “Many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the Kingdom of heaven,” in the words of Jesus. We as the Church have a central role in the coming of the kingdom of God. We are to embody in the values of the Kingdom as an incarnation of what is to come. It is necessary, therefore, that the Church exhibits the same universal character for all are welcome.
