My guess is that Zebedee was not happy. He had worked hard to build up his fishing business. Finally, his sons were grown and they would be able to take over and he could rest a bit. But this itinerant preacher, Jesus, comes and tells them to follow him and they do it. They left their poor father alone in the boat with his future now in question. That tells us has compelling is the message of Jesus. Faith is something we need as much as the air we breathe, the water we drink, or fish! Those first apostles realized (and we should too) that they were the ones who could bring to the people they cared about Jesus’ message of love and hope.
