As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” According to St. John’s gospel Andrew knew of Jesus even before this call and introduced his brother Simon (Peter) to him. Given that history, you wonder how he felt when Jesus did not choose him to be one of the inner circle — Peter and the other set of brothers, James and John. Did he feel overlooked, taken for granted, disrespected, jealous? The gospels don’t tell us. Perhaps what Andrew learned is that God wants us to use the gifts we have been given and not aspire for status.
