Jesus saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew. He said to them, “Come after me.” St. Matthew portrays Jesus calling two sets of brothers to be his first disciples: Peter and Andrew, James and John. However, as the gospels relate Jesus particular companions were Peter, James and John. Did you ever wonder if Andrew felt left out? Remember too, in St. John’s Gospel Andrew was a disciple of John the Baptist and met Jesus before any others of the twelve. I like to think that before Jesus went off with the three he would pull Andrew aside. “I need you to watch the eight others while I’m away. You are the one I trust to do this. Use your particular gifts.”
