St. Paul wrote to the Church in Philippi: “I long to depart this life and be with Christ, for that is far better. Yet that I remain in the flesh is more necessary for your benefit.” This thought of the Apostle reminds us to focus on the “why” of life instead of merely surviving. There was a scene in a MASH episode where Hawkeye is yelling, “I can’t let the enemy win.” The enemy for him as a doctor was death. For Christians death is a conquered enemy since it ushers us into a new and fuller life “with Christ.” How would you answer the question Mary Oliver poses: Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
