St. Paul’s letter to the Romans is unlike his others since he is writing to a community he does not know. The letter served as an introduction since he planned on coming to Rome on his way to Spain. He wanted the Roman Church to provide support for this new missionary effort. I aspire to proclaim the Gospel not where Christ has already been named, so that I do not build on another’s foundation. Things didn’t work out as planned. He was arrested in Jerusalem and sent to Rome under arrest where he lived for the last three or so years of his life. Paul found his plan and God’s plan don’t always coincide. The challenge of faith: do we trust God’s plan for us?
