St. Paul concludes his reflection on the fact that his own people, the Jews, have not responded to faith in Jesus by exclaiming: “How inscrutable are God’s judgments and how unsearchable his ways!” The Apostle believes that God wishes all to be saved and trusts that the divine mercy will embrace the Jewish people — and all people — according to the divine plan. When we think about our own loved ones who are not believers it causes us distress. We know how much happier and fuller their lives would be with the faith. But like St. Paul we have to trust that God continues to be at work, that God can make a way according to a plan which is greater than our imaginings.
