For wisdom is a kindly spirit … For the Spirit of the Lord fills the world, is all-embracing, and knows what man says. The “Wisdom of Solomon” was written sometime around 100BC. While it was not included in the Hebrew Bible it was part of the Greek translation of the Bible called the Septuagint. Wisdom literature was a common genre in the ancient Near East and the Book of Proverbs is a prominent example this style of writing. The wisdom traditions reflect a more personal turn in the relationship with God. Instead of God relating to the historical drama of kings and the struggle of the nations, wisdom is something accessible to every believer. We read wisdom books for guidance in living a faithful existence daily.
