Some scholars wonder if St. Paul wrote the letter to the Ephesians (although it is certainly in the Pauline tradition.) For one thing, he had spent considerable time there but the letter does not reflect an intimate knowledge of the Church you would expect. More than that it is the shift in tone from epistles Paul certainly wrote that causes the question to be raised. The letter to the Ephesians suggests that Jesus did not come so much to repair a world broken by original sin. Rather, the whole point of creation from the first “let there be light” was so that God could become incarnate, that humanity could share in divinity, “to sum up all things in Christ, in heaven and on earth.”
