When you explore why people have stopped going to the Church one frequent answer is: I felt judged there. On the one hand judging is a necessary aspect of human existence. We make a judgement whether french fries or green salad would be a better side dish. The Bible warns us that we shouldn’t be making judgments about people. St. Paul says, “You, O man, are without excuse, every one of you who passes judgment.” In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus puts it bluntly: “Stop judging.” The point is — we have no right to judge people. How they stand before God is not ours to know so every individual deserves to be treated as precious… But you can judge the worth of french fries!
