A constant theme in the Pauline letters is the call to unity. He was most concerned with the division that existed between the Jews and Gentiles. In Christ, all are one. Through Christ Jesus the whole structure is held together in him you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. In our time divisions seem to be more pronounced than ever — red states or blue states, black folk or white folk, Cubs fans or Sox fans. The Apostle wants us to understand that all those things which seem to divide us pale to insignificance compared with the unity won for us in Jesus. Every individual bears a family resemblance to Jesus and, hence, is a brother or sister.
