It is a providence that on the feast of the Guardian Angels the Old Testament lesson is from Job 38. Up to that point in the book, Job and his companions have been trying to make sense of suffering. In that chapter God answers, basically saying that the ways of God are deeper, wider, more powerful than any human attempt to understand them. With that background we can interpret this feast as a reminder that God is with us. loving us, caring for us in ways that are beyond our ken. The Guardian Angels stand for the unseen, unknown, and even unknowable presence of God in our lives. Anyone who has ever driven a car has experienced what it is like to have a Guardian Angel!
