St. Paul said, “Where sin increased, grace overflowed all the more.” That word of encouragement should be taken to heart. How easy it is to notice that things seem to be going from bad to worse. That was as true in Paul’s time as in our own. But the Apostle wanted us to understand that God isn’t finished yet. No matter how terrible things seem, God’s grace and compassion are more powerful. Perhaps our prayer for the day is to notice the grace and not to be discouraged by the “sin.” Look around and see examples of divine mercy and compassion in the church, the family, the neighborhood. This should give us hope that even in a world filled with suffering, grace is overflowing.
