St. Paul provides our goal: “living the truth in love, we should grow in every way into him who is the head, Christ.” As we remember from the trial of Jesus before Pilate “what is truth?” remains the key question. The truth is that all of us are sinners. Our lives are filled with mistakes, misjudgments, flaws. Despite that God loves us and Jesus died to set us free from ourselves. When we live out that truth we treat other people with love, with kindness and gentleness, for they too are beloved of God. “Growing in Christ” requires that we live as he lived — realizing our complete dependence on God to even take a breath and to see others as precious in God’s eyes.
