The current debate over “critical race theory” is something of a puzzlement to me. If you don’t know your history, how do you ensure don’t make the same mistakes again? For example, some of the ugliest chapters in the history of the Church were times of violent anti-Semitism. Since at least the fourth century Christians have attacked and killed Jews simply because of their faith. This despite the fact that St. Paul clearly states how much the Church owes to our Jewish heritage. Theirs the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; theirs the patriarchs, and from them, according to the flesh, is the Christ. Knowing the Church’s dark side provides the opportunity for repentance and conversion.
