O stupid Galatians! Who has bewitched you. St. Paul probably missed that class about the healing power of affirmation. He was not giving out any prizes for participation. He was stating very clearly what he thought of the situation and didn’t care who knew it. While his language is somewhat shocking to us it reflects the gospel value of boldness. Jesus tells us to be bold in our prayer: ask, seek, knock. Don’t be wishy-washy. Tell God what you want and need. God knows anyway so why beat around the bush. Perhaps our prayers are tentative because we don’t want to hear “no” from God. But the teaching of Jesus is to keep asking and trust in the mercy and compassion of God.
