“And who is my neighbor?” That question addressed to Jesus is just as relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago. In fact, it might be more relevant because in this age in instant global communication the sense that we are all connected has deepened. Think of that image of the Syrian refugee baby washed up on the beach. Every parent throughout the world felt the poignancy of the scene. As a result of that image many people realized that refugees from half a world away are “our neighbors.” Jesus challenges us to expand our circle of care. There isn’t anyone out there who doesn’t deserve to be treated as a child of God. Our blessings are not meant to be hoarded but to be shared.
