There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Noticing differences seems the most natural of activities. A tree is not a rock, blue is not red, Johnny is not Jeannie. St. Paul is challenging us to notice that underlying the natural is the supernatural. That, as a matter of fact, God has designed a unity, a oneness at the root of it all. Every human being — in fact every living thing — has DNA as their building block. Every created thing — from dust to stars — are made up of the same collection of atoms and molecules. If we stop focusing on differences and concentrate on commonalities there would be less war, poverty, racism, hatred.
