Jesus called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles. As someone who was frequently chosen last, and sent out into right field, I wonder how those disciples who weren’t chosen to be numbered among the “twelve” felt. (We know the names of two of them from the Acts of the Apostles: Matthias who was eventually chosen to be part of the twelve and Barsabas, called Justus.) And what about the women disciples? Did they feel neglected when they weren’t chosen? It is the nature of choice that choosing one thing, or person, means not choosing another. While on a personal level not being chosen can be disappointing, from the divine perspective we should understand that the true goal is to find the place to use one’s giftedness. If we are not chosen for one thing, you can be sure the providence of God will chose for you something that fits better.
