In St. Luke’s gospel Jesus is frequently depicted in prayer, particularly before a major decision such as the choice of his twelve apostles. “Jesus departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God.” You have to wonder, though, if there were critics among those who were not chosen. “Why did Jesus chose those guys. They are a bunch a losers.” Which proved true — one betrayed, one denied, the rest deserted. But when we do something in prayer we have to trust that God will bless the depth and sincerity of our choice. When we choose because we believe that this is God’s will, then we can leave the success to God who judges the heart, not the outcome.
