Several years ago I was coordinator for a conference of the Missionary Servants — about 150 men — at a hotel. One of the men came up to me and said, “It’s too cold in here. Ask them to turn the AC down.” I said I would take care of it. About five minutes later another confrere came and said, “It’s too hot in here. Ask them to turn the AC up.” I said I’d take care of it. No matter what you do, someone is going to be unhappy. Jesus experienced that in his ministry. He found that being criticized is part of the package. ‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance. We sang a dirge, but you did not weep.’ If Jesus was criticized we should not be surprised when we are criticized. That is why it is necessary to discern carefully what you perceive to be the will of God, to pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance and strength, and then to do something, no matter what anyone thinks.
