“A man going on a journey called in his servants and gave … to each according to his ability.” The parable goes on to describe how some used what they were given and others did not. When we apply the parable to our lives we must, first, appreciate what we have been given and, second, apply those gifts. Each one of us has gifts and talents that God intends us to use in making this world a little more a place of love. That also applies to us as a parish. While we are not the biggest parish or the richest parish we are gifted with wonderful people sharing life and faith. We must invest the gifts that we have in reaching out to our neighbors, in building up the community, in caring for the hurting, in healing wounds. St. Paul said, “On the subject of fraternal charity you have no need for anyone to write you,” but it is good to be reminded from time to time.
