To belong to Church you learn the catechism, you read the Bible, you recide the creeds, you practice the sacraments. All of these actions are designed to help us to know about Christ. The words of the “unclean spirit” should give us pause. “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are–the Holy One of God!” The demons know about Christ, who Jesus is, so that is not the goal of a person of faith! We can’t stop at knowing about Christ; we must continue on to having a relationship with him and acting as he has taught us. Once we take Christ into our lives we must put into practice the things he stands for — compassion, forgiveness, generosity, love. It is a curiosity of these days that the people who wrap themselves in the mantle of Christianity neglect the practices which Jesus demanded of his followers.
