One of the best remembered parables of Jesus is called The Sower and the Seed. It begins, “A sower went out to sow his seed.” The parable as Jesus told it originally was focused on the sower. After the disciples ask Jesus what the parable meant there is an explanation which concentrates on the seed — what are the reasons that the seed germinates so seldom. Most preachers go there. What are the things which prevent the seed which is God’s word from taking hold in our hearts? But we should not lose sight of the original parable. It is going out to sow that matters. This suggests that we should concentrate on spreading the word and leave how it is received up to God.
