Pope Francis says that we are missionary disciples. The motto of the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity is that every Catholic is called to be an apostle. From two different voices a clear message: our faith is not simply ours to hold onto but something meant to be shared, to be given freely to others. Sent to do what? Jesus sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. Next question: what is the kingdom of God? It is the place where everyone knows him or herself as of infinite value, created in God’s image and likeness, made a child of God, living as brothers and sisters with all, forgiven and forgiving, destined for glory. And how do we heal the sick? Well, maybe we can’t heal cancer but we can heal the sickness of hatred, of depression, of racism, of inequality, of loneliness, of fear. When we address those kinds of things we are fulfilling the commission we have from Jesus.
