One of the characteristics of modernity is that, unlike Job, people do question God. Faust is portrayed as a hero. Zorba dances defiantly on the beach. John Lennon claimed to be more popular than Jesus. Since we live in the modern world our default position is not like Job’s of presuming on the will of God. The challenge for believers today is to re-capture the Biblical mindset of trusting that God is smarter than we are, that the God who created the universe has a plan that we can trust.
