The angels are mentioned frequently in the Bible. They serve as a reminder that God is at work in the world in ways beyond our ken. The word angel means “messenger” and we know about angels because they bring “the good news” of God’s presence and action. Since the word angel describes their function and not their nature it tells us that each one of us can be “angels” as well. We are not angels because we are pure and holy but we are angels when we are “messengers” of hope. There is someone in the providence of your daily life who needs you to share with them the good news that God’s unconditional love is theirs if they are willing to receiving it.
