After a night of prayer Jesus called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles. Some wag observed that Jesus did not have great HR skills since he chose one who betrayed him, another denied him, the rest abandoned him. Couldn’t he have made better choices? The take away from this: God works with what is. No doubt there were more talented and better educated people in Galilee at the time but these twelve were the ones God would use to inaugurate the kingdom. That is our story as well. We should not pine for better leaders or wealthy patrons or superior talents. The people God has woven into our community are exactly the ones God will use.
