St. Luke tells us that after Jesus spent the night in prayer he selected the twelve apostles. I’m sure that they were honored at being chosen. But what about the ones who weren’t chosen, did they feel passed over? We know the names of at least two of them from the Acts of the Apostles — Matthias and Justus. No doubt when they looked at the twelve who were chosen and thought, “those guys are no better than I am.” However, they did not tuck their tails between their legs and slink home but instead continued as disciples. That serves as a reminder to each of us that it doesn’t matter your title, your position, your status. Continue to serve as you can with your gifts.
