The Lord will give them up, until the time when she who is to give birth has borne, And the rest of his brethren shall return to the children of Israel. The Bible does not talk about the birth of Mary. Christian imagination has invented pious legends to fill in what we don’t know. My own suspicion is that her birth and childhood were remarkably like any other. Because she was nourished and protected as a child she was able to play her part in the divine drama. That is same challenge that is held out to us today. We must make sure that ALL children are nourished and kept safe and secure so that they can make their contribution to the kingdom of God.
