No matter what you do you’re going to get criticized. They criticized John the Baptist for being a religious fanatic and they criticized Jesus as a party animal. Since they are going to criticize you anyway, you might as well do the right thing! For example, the Church is critiqued nowadays for “getting involved in politics.” When it speaks in defense of life, or the dignity of immigrants, or the need to end gun violence certain voices are raised saying the Church should not be involved in public policy. But how can we not? The gospel demands that we bring good news into a hurting world even when the world is tinged with political decisions. Let us continue to act according to God’s will.
